"The Misadventures of a Single Mom"

 Queen of The House
Back to Full Blog

Awww....the sweet sound of silence. Man, this is some golden stuff...savoring it like some fine wine tonight.

I somehow amazingly managed to get a night all to myself. R took the boys to see his sister and DB is spending the night with a friend. It's just me and Buster (the dog) and he's been passed out on the floor for a while now. Love that dog....low maintenance...and I am all about that!

There are a million things I could be doing, but alas I find myself having little want or desire to move my happy ass off this couch.....we have bonded tonight...my ass...this couch. It's a rather special relationship that I have seriously neglected as of late. It took us awhile to "reconnect", but alas the cushions and I have become one once again.

I am wondering if in hind sight I was a bit too anxious to get my "tribe" *cough, cough* I mean family out the door tonight. Was it too much that I had all their little bags packed since yesterday?? The quick pecks on the cheeks, followed by one too many "I love you too's" and many "subtle" gestures towards the front door and the car. Naw, I wasn't obvious or nothin'. I can't imagine why R asked me about 3 gazillion times if I was sure I didn't want to go to his sisters house. After the first 200 "No, thank yous" I started to think perhaps I should have learned sign language cuz the boy is apparently hard of hearing or seriously SLOW!

I went to turn on some music earlier and someone had apparently believed the Disney Channel station should play at decibels that the entire neighborhood should enjoy. I dare say I jumped a bit, almost tripping over Buster and probably using a few "choice" curse words.

I also noted how sweet it is to be FREAKIN QUEEN of the remote control. I felt a strange feeling of power as I clutched it in my little hands...I could watch whatever I wanted...without interruption and without being asked 200 zillion times if we could pretty please change the channel because watching Nickelodeon isn't the same on the other 3 FREAKIN TV's in the house.

So, I nourished my brain with a little History Channel...and some channel surfing...pausing only long enough to take R's call informing me they had arrived safe and sound. I'm wearing my old favorite PJ's...hair is a mess..no one to impress tonight. I could only find one of my cozy slippers...the other one apparently has decided to visit someone else's closet...or perhaps Buster hid it out back with the other "treasures" he seizes and captures. I think Buster secretly enjoys sending us on wild goose hunts...bet he has a lot of good dog giggles watching us frantically look for "misplaced"
items.

Well, I am going to enjoy a wee bit more of the silence....and retire with Buster to my chamber. I am Queen of the House tonight and intend on savoring every minute left of my rule...until I hand over my reign to the Tribe I call my family.
Take care out there...

Life, Hectic? OHHHHHHHHHH YYYYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH! Had to laugh outloud when I stumbled on the Queen Blog, I'm not a woman, but know the feeling of being harried every day, I farm and run a business, so I know from where you come...I have a blog here too, it's kinda on the dark side and the last entry or three have dealt with important issues of today, I pull no punches and let it all hang out in the wind, so if you're inclined, go take a look, but have to warn you, it is NOT all light prose and hearts and flowers...Take Care, Stay Healthy and for God's Sake, HIDE the garden hose...Jeez!

Not sure I would know what to do with myself if it wasn't that way. I will certainly have to hide that darn water hose...take care out there..

Woo! Way to go, AM! You enjoy that remote and couch. Do not let anything part you from being purely 100% decadently lazy. I suppose by this time your tribe has returned, though, eh?

NB:

Oh believe you me I truly enjoyed the lazy time...man there is such a simple pleasure in doing NOTHIN'! LOL Yes, the tribe returned but a little rest had me prepared for the week ahead. Hope you had a great weekend.

Like as if the dog would care about you wearing your PJs. You could dress up like a clown, and as long as you scratch them behind the ears, they could care less what you look like.

Glad to hear that you had a night of piece and quiet. I am also glad to hear that your ass was reacquainted with the couch. Nothing like the occasional quiet evening sitting on your ass with the television remote control in your hand!

And that's while you're waiting for the pizza guy!

Oh how I can relate to your post! I joke about paying $54/month for Disney & Nick! If my 8 y/o gets to the remote first, you can bet it'll be on Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack & Cody, or High School Musical something.

My ass really WANTS to have a relationship with my couch, but it just can't make it there. Maybe one day...

My two girls are both playing softball so I'm always at a ballfield somewhere. Now I'm having conflicts of 2 games at the same time at 2 different fields. I hate missing any of them, so I have to choose the 8 yr old's since I'm the only one there to watch her.

Free time to be Queen of the House is really a God-send to us busy mothers. Having such a hectic life is hard & stressful. I used to get all down when they went to their dad's to visit. Now, I almost want to throw a party! Not because I want them gone, but because I've finally realized that I MUST have some "me" time to be any good to them - & to not allow myself to devour them.

You know, mothers of teens know why some animals eat their young...

Big Al:

Hey buddy! Good to see you...

Man, I knew I was forgetting something...the pizza! What was i thinking?

Yup, Buster could care less what I look like, what I wear or watch on TV etc....he's low keyed that way!

I did enjoy the peace and quiet and having sole POWER over the remote control. Sometimes it's just about the little things.

You are going to have to keep me posted on the NFL draft...I hope we don't make stupid choices...**crossin' fingers**

Hope you are having a great week. Take care out there...

Secret:

Always good toi see ya girl!

I was laughing as I read your post. I can totally relate to feeling like you pay just to have Nick and the Disney Channel. I can handle most of the shows the kids watch, but have gotten to a point where I have to leave the room when Zach and Cody come on....I have no more patience with that show for some reason...

I will sned positive vibes your way so that perhaps you can find some ass/couch time. We all need it every once in a while don't we? i know you deserve it!

Yes, I think us Mom's with teens know EXACTLY why some animal eat their young!

Thanks for the giggle today. Hope all is well...take care out there..

Awesome to see you stop by as always!!!

yes, i know exactly what you mean...there is a simple pleasure in hearing the car pull away and a slight twinge of "Momma Time Over" blues when you hear it re-appear! LOL

We all need a little tiem to ourselves...if not we'd all be living in padded white rooms! LOL

Hope all is well in your part of the world. take care out there....
