"The Misadventures of a Single Mom"

 Those Crazy Summer Days!
Back to Full Blog

Okay...I guess I am a big fat liar! I said I would be writing more often here, but as you can see...I have miserably failed. Here it is August already and I cannot help but wonder one thing....Where the HELL did the summer go?? Did someone push fast forward or somethin' ?

This summer has flown by and the only thing that does seem real right now is that ALL the kids start school next week. Can I get and amen and alleluia people???

As much as I have truly "loved" their summer time company each and EVERY day there is something amazing....totally completely amazing in the fact that soon I shall be Queen of the house again and perhaps if truly blessed I will be able to enjoy a few daily moments of FREAKING peace and quiet!!

I have learned a few valuable lessons this summer though. I thought I would share a few of them here with you. Shall we???

I have learned that the youngest child in the family will do anything and I do mean ANYTHING in order to impress and please their older siblings. I have learned that he will carry this out in the following ways:

A) By shoving a Lego deep within his nostril cavity on a dare that resulted in a trip to the ER and the grounding of ALL THINGS CHILDREN!!

B) He will allow an older sister to repeatedly dress him in drag and parade himself around the neighborhood causing those bothersome nosey neighbors to "whisper" every time they see our family.

C) He will be convinced by all of his brothers and sisters that by wearing his Superman outfit he is truly invincible to all the things they throw at him, spit at him, and trip him with.

D) He will refuse to eat ANYTHING green not because he doesn't like them but because "someone" has convinced him that by eating these items will result in him growing freaking mold all over his body!

E) He will endure countless wedgies for the pure entertainment factor it provides his siblings and all of their friends. Leaving me to wonder if he just puts up with it for the laughs or does he enjoy it???

F) He will refuse to sleep in his own bed because he was "forced" to listen to countless scary stories while his siblings were babysitting. He will now forever be dammed to sleep with every light on and force his parents to perform 85 GAZILLION under the bed checks for monsters, serial killers, Michael Meyers, and giant spiders!

G) He will refuse to go to the bathroom or swim in the pool or take a bath because after 7 days of shark week his "educated" brothers convinced him that sharks can be found in ANY kind of water and that they love to eat little boys best!

There are many more but they shall be saved for a rainy day. Let's just say that the older kids have spent a lot of time this summer up in their rooms "thinking" about what they have done to him. Yet, I believe this form of grounding only gives them more time to hatch more of their evil little plans. If only they could devout the same amount of time and energy into something more productive. I am convinced if they did they could end world hunger or discover the cure for every disease known to man.

All is well here. The summer has been busy, but truth be told a lot of fun. As much as I am ready for the kids to go back to school I will in some small tiny way miss them being around all day. Wait...what am I saying?? Was that my out loud voice???

I hope you all are doing well. I hope the summer has been kind and wonderful to you all. I must go...I think one of the wild beasts...Mmmm... I mean children are calling me. Take care out there...

Oh but before I go...is anyone else out there already wishing that High School Musical 2 had not been released? Have you too been forced to watch it 5 million times?? Do you find yourself singing the songs from the movies at weird times like while shopping? If any of you out there are suffering from this I am seriously thinking about starting a support group...just an FYI.

It is wonderful to have you back in the Stream, AM! I have missed you very much!!!

What a rocking summer you have had, my dear, and I hope you've been taking notes on all the silly happenings. This post has given me some crazy visions as I remember growing up in a family of five kids --- put a bunch of children together under one roof and anything goes!

Like you, I heard lots about the High School Musical 2 and will have to tape it for future visits by the granddaughters --- the show broke viewing records! And it's a musical, for gosh sakes! Today I saw lots of HSM2 merchandise stacked up at the stores, so get your purses ready.

I haven't been writing as much lately and I think everyone's been too busy this summer for comments too. I used to try to post every day, but I've discovered that the Stream keeps going with or without me! Write when you can and always come by for a visit with me, AM. Take care! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

You are learning well young grasshopper And yes High School Musical 2 has resulted in the shadow of kids flying through the air and the occasional ricochet off the walls and the diving off the furniture. Good to see you survived the summer AM

I kind of feel guilty after reading your blog...I was the one that convinced my little brother that he was born with a long monkey tail that was surgically removed at birth....He spent 12 years trying to swing from high places and got plenty of broken bones...Youngest child syndrome is always funny if your not the youngest Seems like no one has as much time to blog lately...The best part for me is ever once in awhile catching up with people that I feel close to and knowing that they are doing well....

They start back the 30th AM and the "Little One" has about 10 days now to read 30 books do two book reports, cover sheets and a math pack with about 30 pages Thankfully the 10 year old already has his done Is it mandatory in Texas for them to do all that work over the summer? Nothing like burying them before they even start....and me! But now..... every word is already memorized on High School Musical 2 and it hasn't even been out a week .....Go figure. It was great to see you back and posting I've missed you girl! Enjoy whats left to the summer it's going to be a looooooong winter here anyway

Welcome back!

You have some interesting stories to tell! I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have 3 rugrats running around my house from nearly 8 up to almost 16. I myself am very glad school started back!

Colo:

That's a funny story..a monkey tail huh? Oh Lord what the older kids do to the younger ones. Yet, I must admit I was guilty of the same things growing up. My brothers still recall with vivid detail all of my big sister antics! LOL

I guess the summer has everyone busy with less time to write. It sure was nice to stop by and catch up with everyone's blogs. I've missed so much.

Hope all is well. Take care out there...

Misty:

I know what you mean about summer homework. I really don't like it at all. One of our younger kids lost his and had a complete meltdown. It was like pulling teeth to get him new copies from someone else. I think summer vacation should be just that....summer vacation!!

Oh High School Musical 2 is already on the TV at my house today. Sometimes I really hate that damn Tivo! GRRRR!!

Happy Tuesday!!

Buy a really cool zapping alien gun for the lil one. That's what we did for the weenster when she was scared of monsters. It was a heavy duty silver flash light that we told her would zap the monsters. It certainly helped her.
My soon to be 15 year old wants to attend a rock concert withthe 19 year old. Oh lord, let me live until they are all grown!
It's been a crazy summer.

Whispered:

Sooooooooooooooooo good to see you!! I might have to buy an alien zapper/monster killer for the youngest. I have not had a good nights sleep in months now.

Oh the concert thing huh? R's nephew begged and begged us this summer to go to a concert. We finally gave in but I must admit I paced the floor until he got home that night. It's amazing that any of us survive teenage years!!

Hope all is well with you Girl! Take care out there...

Secret:

I can relate to the HSM2 thing. I dare say it has been blaring on one of the TV's round the clock since Friday. Only a few more days until school starts and perhaps I will get a break from the craze!! A girl can dream can't she?? LOL

Hope all is well in your world. Take care out there...

Hey there AM!
Quite a summer, and as usual you tell about it with your own wry twist, I love that!!
Reading your blog makes me feel much better about being an old woman with no grandchildren! I have a garden, but I've never heard of HSM2. I thought it was one of those big gas guzzler vehicles.
It's soooo good to see you again! Update again when you have a chance, okay?
Love ya,

AM,

It is great to see you back! And as for the start of school, well "AMEN" to that! The children went back to school in Orange County on Monday. I have spent the last two days at the neighborhood center trying to get the place back in shape after the summer camp. And I have been finding things in places you wouldn't even think of, wiping any stains off the walls, and cleaning out any storage units. I found something that I think was a sandwich at one time, but has become a science project. And I filled up the lost and found bin with enough towels to start my own car wash. At least I do not have to listen to HSM2. But I will most likely see it soon.

Anyway, enjoy what is left of summer, and write again soon.

Daisy:

Always sooooo great to see you! You should consider yourself one lucky woman to not be in the "know" of HSM2! It's just not a pretty picture by the 200th millionth time you watch it! Trust me...heck, I wish it was a car! LOL

I hope you are having a great summer and that life is being good to you. Take care out there....and if you really want to know what HSM2 is I have a few kids I can send your way!

Big Al:

I will give you a big 'Amen" right back buddy! I am so ready for school to start...I am literally counting the moments. Funny that you are finding little "treasures" in the aftermath of summer camp! Sounds like my house...I find somethings in the house from the kids and I'm like "What the Hell did this USE to be?"

I hope you get to enjoy some peace and quiet. I hope to be around the Stream a bit more often! Go Cowboys!
